The Amber Fort is 11 kilometres outside Jaipur and about 40 minutes in a tuk-tuk, which, in this weather, makes the journey feel a little cooler with the wind going through the open vehicle. The fort illustrates Rajput architecture and used to be the ancient capital of the Jaipur state with the surrounding hills having protective walls and battlements to protect the town in the valley below. Maharaja Man Singh began construction of the fort in 1592. It is possible to ride up to the fort on an elephant but one has to have a lot of money to ride one and be early as well as they stop at 1000 hours with it being too hot for the elephant to work.
