The Red fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan over a ten year period starting in 1638. The walls extend for two kilometres and vary in height from 18 metres on the river side to 33 metres high on the city side with a moat 10 metres deep round the wall. Inside the fort are numerous buildings which were used for private or state purposes.

This building would have been surrounded by water |
Water from the river came into this building and down the ramp in the front before going through channels throughout the fort |
