16 June - The Palace of the Winds, Jaipur (India)

The Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of the Winds as it is called, is right in the centre of Jaipur. It is a five storied building made of honeycombed pink sandstone in 1799 by the Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to enable the ladies of the royal household to watch the life and processions in the city.

I was told that there was nothing to see inside, just to go to the main street and take a picture of the outside as everyone does and how everyone knows the palace to look.

Now come with me and see the palace with nothing inside.

Go through the doors, which will be opened for you, and see nothing!

If you look very carefully you may see what the ladies of the court would have seen years ago as each hole has a view of different parts of the roads and buildings outside

This looked as if it was nothing special. Now look at the window taken from the other side.

  1. Palace on Wind or popularly known in the local language Hawa Mahal is another fort which stand in the centre if the city. The forty was built for the queen, so as she could sit at the window to watch the Kings parade. City Palace, Jal Mahal etc are some more of beautiful attractions of the city.
