15 August – Hue to Hoi An (Vietnam)

A treat this morning – A frozen solid Snickers bar for breakfast when the bus stopped during the journey from Hue to Hoi An.

Only a five hour journey this time arriving at the hotel at 1300 hours and what a shock at the end of it! We were put in the Greenfields Hotel and on entering the room Derrick and myself thought there had been a mistake so we sat there quietly for half-an-hour, not touching anything, expecting to be told that we were in the wrong room. Why? It had twin beds with mosquito nets if required; towels that had been folded to look like swans; flower petals on the bed with a small pot of flowers on the table and a fruit bowl; a television that actually worked; wifi in the room; towels, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, comb, toilet paper; sink and bath plugs (the latter never seen since leaving the UK); a mini bar with free bottles of water; wardrobe with hangers; chairs and writing table; kettle with teapot and cups. It’s a dream! Don’t touch, it will all go away, but No! It was the correct room and it did not take long to spread all our things around, not to make it like home, just to make the normal mess as we were to spend three nights in the place. The hotel did have a swimming pool and restaurant as well.

Not to waste the rest of the day I went out walking and found the people to be very friendly and with a reasonable command of English. There was a temple down the road as well!

The Nam Quang Tu Temple.
