18 July - Beijing’s Speciality and Dainty Snacks (China)

Dong Huamen Street in Beijing has a night market that has been in existence since 1984 and is one of similar streets to visit when in Beijing. The signpost to the street does actually indicate that it is a street for Dainty snacks and Speciality Snacks, but it should be remembered that it applies to the Chinese idea of what a snack may be, certainly not my idea of a snack! They are all on sticks like fast foods! It is not necessary to have a strong stomach but it may help if you have not seen the like of what is shown below. The stall holders were quite happy for me to take photographs, perhaps hoping that I would buy the snacks afterwards.

  1. oh, come on, where is your sense of adventure, the spider was 'different' but not on my list of 'must have's'

The locusts were crunchy and spicey, the silk worm pupua did have much tast or anything inside, the fried ice cream was another different taste
